A few weeks back some bright spark realised our two clubs had been playing friendly cricket against each other for 25 years, this was confirmed by Terry 'The Duke' Newton who managed to dig out the original 1984 score book. To mark the occasion we got together at The Hoe for an all dayer, 16 / 16 in the morning, 14 a side, and then a 40 overs game in the afternoon.
The Duke who opened the bowling back in '84 was the only player from either side still 'playing', although it has to be said that the bolwing arm was a little lower than in '84, but he's still got it, no wickets from his bowling, but he took a super smart catch in the slips!
The games were punctuated by a lovely 2 course lunch, thanks to Frank for his efforts there, and at the end of the day a few ales were put down, with some actually being brought up too, but we won't go into details!
Combined scores from both games dictated that Ivanhoe won the day, but all agreed that friendly cricket was the real winner, ok, so it's a cliche, what the hell.
